Origin of Genuine Blue Mountain Coffee
Additionally, these highly prized coffee beans must be grown between 3,000 feet and 5,500 altitude in order to qualify as true Blue Mountain Coffee. The coffee beans coming from an elevation between 3,000 feet and 1,500 feet are called Jamaica High Mountain Coffee, and those coming from an elevation lower than 1,500 feet elevation are called Jamaica Supreme or Jamaica Low Mountain. Clearly the higher the altitude the coffee is grown the greater the product is deemed to be valued. It is believed that the higher the altitude, the higher the moisture content is of the air, environment and the soil. This all contributes to the high-priced, ultra-premium coffee.
